Welcome to Haslett, located in Ingham County. Offering an array of places to live and visit. Ingham County was settled in 1834 and was named after Andrew Jackson's Secretary of the Treasury, Samuel D. Ingham. Ingham county's largest community is Lansing, Michigan's state capital. Although Detroit was Michigan's first capital city, a controversy arose about moving the capital to a more central location: A political battle ensued and Lansing Township emerged as a suitable compromise location in 1847. Today Ingham county is dominated by not only Michigan's capital city, but Oldsmobile factories and Michigan State University - the state's largest institution of higher learning. It is fast on the grow, with developing suburbs and an increasingly diversified economy.
Haslett Schools: Haslett Schools offer a wide array of extracurricular activities in all sports, the performing arts, academic clubs, yearbook, student newspaper, television production, and service-oriented organizations such as Key Club. Today, the graduation rate at Haslett High School continues to exceed the national goal of 90 percent. In 2002, Haslett High School was the recipient of its second "Governor's Cup Award" in recognition of having the largest number of students in the Ingham County League to receive the Michigan Merit Award, based on academic achievement as measured by standardized tests. Among other distinctions, the district claims National Merit Scholars and finalists, as well as consistently award-winning programs in athletics, band and choir, journalism, television production.
And its academic "Quiz Bowl" team. Recreation: Haslett offers The Color Cruise and Island Festival, which celebrates fall with an unmatched combination of nature's glories and mid-Michigan good times. The towering hardwood trees compete to see which can most beautifully reflect colors on the river. Cool off at the East Lansing Aquatic Center (located just a couple of miles from Haslett), or go to the downtown area during the summer to catch a jazz festival, or a food tasting festival. During the fall there are numerous down-town activities, including Halloween and Christmas festivals. Golf: There are ten golf courses within a 6-mile radius of Haslett. Timber Ridge Golf Club, located 6 miles from Okemos is one of only 12 public courses.
In North America they have been honored with the highest possible rating, five stars, by Golf Digest readers. This Michigan golf course is also listed in the Top 50 in terms of value for the money and course condition, and in the Top 10 courses for unrestricted walking. Timber Ridge Golf Club was honored by Golf Digest as America's 4th best new public course when it opened in 1990. Haslett offers great resources for families, for students and for seniors. There is student housing available as Michigan State University is only a couple of miles away. For seniors there are a variety of housing options open to them as well. Housing is affordable and prices range from the low hundreds for a family home up into the millions. Haslett has access to Lake Lansing, a large public lake with beaches, boating and fishing to offer residents.
So whether you're heading to the beach, or to the downtown area to catch an outdoor jazz show, Haslett has something to offer everyone! Haslett is a great place to live and raise a family!
