Welcome to Dimondale a Great Place to Work, Live & Play...
Many have lived in Dimondale their whole lives and are as proud of their community today as they were 50 years ago. The very early years of Dimondale are filled with tales of wolves, bears, and of hardship, but still the pioneers came and settled. In August of 1856, a wealthy New Yorker named Isaac Dimond had a village plot laid out in the shape of a diamond and gave it the name Dimondale. Dimond is also responsible for the building of the grist mill that still operates today, on the banks of the Grand River. The village was incorporated in 1906. Much has changed since those early years, Dimondale is no longer strictly a farming community. The area has experienced a boom in residential construction.
Dimondale is now the new home town to many commuters that work in the surrounding cities of Lansing, Eaton Rapids, and Charlotte. In summer months, residents and visitors of Dimondale find rest and relaxation on the banks of the Grand River. Located near the dam is the Island Park a popular spot for picnickers. In 1998, Dimondale celebrated their Sesquicentennial anniversary with Dimond Daze. Community wide events were held throughout the summer to commemorate this historic year. Shopping in Dimondale is limited to one large grocery store, a general needs store and two hardware stores. There are two antique gift shops located downtown along with a small art gallery.
For more extensive shopping, residents need only drive a short distance to the surrounding towns. Shopping malls, movie theaters and other activities are only a ten minute drive. The town is divided into seven school districts including: Holt-Dimondale, Eaton Rapids, Lansing, Potterville, Waverly, Grand Ledge, and Charlotte. "I love living in a town where I know my neighbors and almost anyone I run into at the grocery store. I have lived here all my life and hope to be here for the rest of it. There is no place like it," said resident Rebecca Prested, a homemaker. The residents of the Village of Dimondale and the surrounding township appreciate the quiet rural atmosphere and the quality of life they enjoy in this peaceful setting.
