
Welcome To Charlotte, a community built on country values. Situated in the center of Eaton County, Charlotte is only 18 miles southwest of Lansing and is the county seat of Eaton County. The city is well-known around the area for its historic courthouse. The courthouse dates back to 1885 and is nationally recognized as an important historical building. It is currently undergoing restoration to bring it back to the condition of its younger days. Charlotte is mainly a rural area, with farms occupying a large part of the landscape. Within the city limits is a combination of architectural style. Both historic and modern homes sit side by side completing the picture of a community built on country values. Charlotte Public Schools house approximately 3,300 students. They have developed a curriculum that places an emphasis on individual achievement.

Instructors and students work side by side to achieve scholastic excellence. The schools are classified as Class B or Division II in academic and athletic competitions. In recent years, the city of Charlotte has experienced a growth in commerce and business opportunities. Residents no longer have to travel to Lansing to go to their favorite department stores or restaurants, many have come to Charlotte. It is now home of Care Free Windows, Spartan Motors, Walmart, and Big KMart. Charlotte is conveniently located off of I-69, which makes traveling to nearby Lansing or Battle Creek just a short drive. There are several annual community events held year-round in Charlotte. It is home to the Eaton County Fairgrounds.

In the summer months these grounds are bustling with activity and a variety of events including: the 4H animal shows and competitions, and the county fair. Charlotte is also the home of Frontier Days. This five day long celebration is held throughout the city every September. This community-wide event celebrates the spirit of the old west with a nationally sanctioned rodeo, arts and crafts shows, and a huge saloon with a wide variety of live entertainment. In the fall, Charlotte holds the annual Charlotte Tour of Homes. These tours highlight the historical homes of this region, some dating back to the early 1800's. There are also a number of public parks in the area with groomed trails for residents and visitors to enjoy, Bennett Park offers a number of recreational trails for non-motorized vehicles.

Other forms of entertainment that are available in Charlotte include: a movie theater, billiards, and bowling. Earliest records indicate that what is now the city of Charlotte was once an overgrown prairie covered by an abundance of beautiful wildflowers. The name Charlotte came from a wealthy landowner in 1881, who wanted the memory of his wife to live on forever. The city of Charlotte remains as charming and beautiful today as it was back then.
