Welcome To Laingsburg, country feel and friendly faces. Laingsburg is a middle-class community located 20 miles northeast of Lansing in Shiawassee County. People live here for Laingsburg's small-town atmosphere and its proximity to Lansing, where many residents commute each day to work. There's a good mix of people living here, from young families to retirees. People here find the safe, quiet neighborhoods perfect for settling down and raising a family. Laingsburg is growing. In the last five years, three new subdivisions opened, with a fourth in development. Outside the city, the once empty farm fields now feature new homes. Laingsburg's Planning Commission controls the city's growth. That's why, unlike the cities where many residents work, there's plenty of green grass and trees in Laingsburg.
Despite the growth, there's no doubt Laingsburg is a small-town. The Laingsburg Police Department employs only three full-time officers. People still volunteer for the three Laingsburg Fire Department stations. In fact, 45 residents volunteer for duty at two fire stations. Laingsburg's business district includes a grocery store, a pharmacy, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. For larger purchases, most residents travel to nearby Meridian Township's retail center which features Meridian Mall. Yet residents, whenever possible, try to support Laingsburg's local businesses. Laingsburg Community Schools educate 1190 students at a high school (350); a middle school (270); and an elementary school (570). Small class sizes allow Laingsburg teachers to give each student more individual attention than that possible in larger school systems.
Laingsburg High School students attend classes at a relatively new $8 million facility. Lansing offers many recreation activities for Laingsburg residents. Locally, parks offer Laingsburg residents the chance for relaxation. People camp, fish, boat, and swim at Sleepy Hollow State Park. There's boating and swimming at Round Lake. Rose Lake Wildlife Experimental Station features multi-purpose trails on more than 2,388 acres of forest and grassland. In 1836, Dr. Peter Laing built a tavern in a small Shiawasee County community that people called Laingsburg. Five years later, the Nebraska post office opened near the tavern. Finally, in 1860, when the Jackson, Lansing & Northern Railroad started making stops here, the name changed back to Laingsburg. Enjoy Laingsburg a Great Place to Work, Live & Play...
